AIMS AND BENEFITS OF LEARNING DANCE Please note: Tap classes are likely to commence in 2008! INTRODUCTION: It can not be emphasised enough the rewards and benefits of learning to dance. To express one's self through rhythm and movement of the body, be it through interpretation of percussion or music - it can result in a performance that may take up so many forms of dance. Everyone has the ability to learn at their own pace and given the opportunity, can become quite accomplished dancers. PRIMARY AIMS To give all children and adults the opportunity of learning, understanding and gaining skills within their ability, in order to dance and perform as an individual, in a suitable environment. To extend each individual so they can perform to their fullest potential. To enhance each individual's learning through exposure to the various forms and styles of dance To enhance each individual's awareness of the various styles of music (genre) for which dancing may be applied To provide opportunities for individuals to perform and achieve within their capabilities. To encourage individuals to create and interpret music through dance To teach in a way that will allow for all individuals to enjoy learning to dance, no matter what their age or stage is! BENEFITS Gaining practical skills associated with dancing. Gaining general understanding in order to apply practical skills that may be applied to various forms and styles of dance. Becoming exposed to various styles of music and genre of music. Enhancing the ability to interpret music through dance. Enhancing the ability to express one's self through movement and dance. Learning skills associated with performance eg: projection, presentation, vocal and facial expression - which can reflect positively in all aspects of life Learning skills associated with creating steps and routines (choreography) Benefiting through experience, methods of application with regard to dance performance and musical interpretation. Gaining confidence and self esteem through theatrical and dance participation. The enhancement of individual's abilities in other areas of learning outside of the dance arena. (eg: through family, social or education circles) Learning at your own pace. Self improvement. A sense of achievement. Learning to mix with others. Musical and dance experiences and opportunities.
