DANCE RESOURCES Most resources have been a derived from my experience of learning, performing, judging and teaching dance to a wide range of ages in tap, jazz and ballet over the past 20 years. It has involved learning the basic techniques and observing various styles and performers. From this, the ability to create more intricate rhythmical choreographed work (as far as tap goes) or applying basic fundamentals into a routine is all something I enjoy doing. Ideas for items too are sourced usually from performances on entertainment programmes, although at times it requires some quite imaginative ideas and themes to create something equally as good that has not be performed previously! There are a number of published books available that give basic instruction in tap dancing, although for many publications, the terminology may differ from that which we know, particularly if it has been printed in a different country. Other videos are available through various organisations including examination work. I have in the past created booklets covering the basic fundamentals of tap along with special routines and in latter years have resorted to storing information in the computer and printing off exercises, steps and routines for group work. Selection of music is chosen and is dependent on the level the dancers are at. The music is adapted, arranged and recorded to meet the requirements of organisations (eg: dance competitions) or for suitable entertainment items that are to be mastered and/or performed. Other music is selected from the internet, vinyl, tape or cd recordings, or sheet music which I have accumulated over the years going back to my parents' days. Other resources include backing tapes and/or cd's (recordings) to assist the individual when practising at home and recordings of original songs that I have composed.
